Cubs Fall Further into Baseball's Abyss

The Cubs fell to the Pirates on Wednesday as they continue to show that they are in the MLB’s basement when it comes to wins and talent. The team has taken a significant drop-off since years past that saw them at least be a contender. This latest loss against a rising Pirates team brings their record to just 40-57 on the season. The Final in Pittsburgh was 3-2 in favor of the Buccos.

The Cubs got just 5 hits in the game, which was the same amount of hits the Pirates got. One of their hits was even a homerun by Rizzo who hit his 5th dinger of the season Wednesday. The Cubs even held a lead most of the game as they began the game getting a run in the top of the 1st and scored another run in the 3rd to go up 2-1. It was not until the fifth that Pirates bats really got going and they tied the game before taking the lead in the 6th. The loss for the Pirates was credited to Cubs’ pitcher Dempster who is now 5-5 this season. More troubling for the Cubs was the fact that their road record dropped to a jaw-dropping 16-36 mark.

White Sox Hit Their way to Victory

The White Sox beat the Twins in Chicago on Wednesday. The team belted their way to a big victory as they continue to make strides toward the playoffs. The final in Chicago was 8-2 in favor of the Sox who got 2 big homeruns in the game while getting a solid start from the mound. The Sox are now 53-45 on the season and look to beat some better teams to show they can be a playoff caliber ball club.

Chicago got 12 hits in all on Wednesday, which was twice that of Minnesota. Rios and Viciedo both hit their 16th homeruns of the season for the Sox, which was a huge reason for the big victory. The team did great offensively, especially early, and had 4 straight innings where they scored 2 runs. Peavy started the game a bit dicey in the first, as he gave up a run, but he quickly settled in and was able to get the win to move to 8-7 on the year.

Cubs Beat marlins at Home

The Cubs won 4-2 against the Marlins in Chicago on Thursday. The Marlins had an old Chicago friend coming back to town, but in the end his Chicago return was spoiled. Marlin’s pitcher Buehrle seemed happy to be back, but following the games outcome was anything but happy as he was credited with the loss. Chicago was able to get the win thanks to one big inning in the bottom of the 6th. The Cubs are now 38-53 on the season while The Marlins fall to 44-48.

Reflections: Jerry Krause

A Chicago Tribune article of interest

We all remember Michael Jordan and his high-flying antics with the Chicago Bulls that brought six NBA titles to the Windy City, but there has to be some homage paid to the man who was really responsible for the management of the team. It all points to the work ethic of Jerry Krause. Something that was given to him by the City of Chicago itself.

In a 51-year scouting career after graduating from Bradley University that saw Krause scout for the likes of the New York Yankees, the Chicago White Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks, he is still working as hard as ever. This is despite being very lucky in his career and life!
