Game one in the windy city goes to the White Sox who bring their record just one game out of 500 percent for the year now. Their away record is now a perfect 500 as well for the season. The Sox did so on some big hits and a big 4-run 7thinning that was brought from the hitting of Ramirez and Pierre. The White Sox got 6 runs on 9 hits one of which was a long homer off the bat of Alexei Ramirez. Edwin Jackson improved his record to 5-6 on the year and Sergio Santos was able to wrap things up in the 9thto get the Save.
Meanwhile, the cubs dropped their record to 34-49 on the year and have 25 of their 49 losses at Wrigley. The cubs had 7 hits, which led to 4 runs. The Cubs also had a homerun from a Ramirez. This dinger came off the bat of Aramis Ramirez and brought his homerun total on the year up to eleven. Randy Wells of the Cubs got credited with the loss, which is his third of the year to just one win.
The two teams will meet again July 2ndand the Cubs will have a chance to even up the series. If not, the white Sox would move their record to .500 on the year at 42 wins and 42 losses. If the Cubs continue to do so poorly at home the clubhouse will begin to slip deeper and deeper into despair. For the White Sox, the goal is to get above that 500 mark before the all-star break.
The two teams play at 4:10 PM ET at historic Wrigley field. On the mound for the Sox will be Philip Humber. Humber has had a great season and carries a 7-4 record with a low 2.89 earned run average. On the rubber for the Cubbies will be Matt Garza. Garza is just 4-6 with a 4.07 ERA.
