With the Super Bowl a week away, the NFL off-season begins. This is always my favorite time of the year. This year is going to be an exciting one.
The NFLPA (National Football League Players Association) and the NFL are going to have an uncapped off season, where any NFL team can spend as much or as little as they want on free agents. With this comes some drama though. Unrestricted free agents must have at least six years in the NFL, when they only needed 4 years before. This means a lot of would be free agents this year become restricted free agents, which means their current team can match any offer from another team, keeping their star player.
Enough of all that. With the Bears having only 4 draft picks in this year’s draft, I would like to go over their potential 3rd and 4th round picks.
NFL Draft:
(Bears have no 1st or 2nd round picks due to the Jay Cutler and Gaines Adams trade)
Round 3: #75
- Selection: Mike Johnson, OG, Alabama
- He isn’t very athletic and could be considered just a back up, but with Mike Tice now the coach of O-Line, I think the Bears will take a shot with him. He was part of that great rushing attack at Alabama and has started 54 games in a row.
Round 4: #106
- Selection: Lindsey Witten, DE, Connecticut
- This might be a reach, but hopefully the Bears strike gold with this pick. Witten had a break out year in 2009 with 11.5 sacks. He is fast (4.7 – 4.8 40 yard dash) and at 6-5 260, has the size the Bears covet in their cover two scheme. If Witten has a great combine, expect him to be long gone by the 4th round.
